Foods to Eat to Lose Weight - The Healthy Woman Program

Here are foods to eat to lose weight. I call this my "Healthy Woman Program".

Since you are probably tired of reading "expert" advice that gives you common sense weight loss tips such as eating more fruits and vegetables... I'll give you some unique insights into how you can lose weight with some good foods.

Foods To Eat To Lose Weight

1. Eggs - The highest valued protein of all foods. Just a great choice for breakfast since they have a lot of protein and fill you up so you can avoid snacking in the late morning.

2. Black beans - Contains 25 grams of fiber and 25 grams of protein in a 50 cent can. That fiber takes care of most if not all the fiber that the average person needs in a day. I generally recommend a higher fiber intake for weight loss... over 40 grams a day. But the U.S. government says you should get at least 25 grams of fiber. So that's taken care of. Added bonus, no sugar in them.

3. Tuna - About 30 grams of protein... a lot considering the small size in the typical can. Since many people don't like tuna by itself (me included), I suggest you mix it into other things. Mix with black beans and some sour cream. Mix into a lean chopped up meat such as beef or chicken. Mix into a salad. Whatever floats your boat.

4. Apples - The king of all snacks. High in fiber and water content, I consider it the perfect snack. Other fruits are similar nutrition-wise, but apples beat them in the mobility issue... easily taking them with you anywhere.

So there are some foods to eat to lose weight... in essence, a healthy woman program that's quite easy to incorporate into your lifestyle so that you don't have to suffer or feel deprived in your efforts to lose some weight.

5 Fast Weight Loss Tips

OK, here are 5 easy weight-loss strategies that you can use straight away no matter how much weight you want to lose, how old you are or where you live.

Tip 1: Limit Deep Fried Foods
Whenever you eat something which has been deep fried, you are getting far far more than you bargained for. Weight Loss Drugs - Why You Need to Be Very Careful

It sounds so easy - just take a pill and you'll be able to lose that weight and be super slim again, but alas things aren't as simple as they appear to be. While some weight loss drugs do work many have been proven to be very dangerous. They work by suppressing your appetite so you don't feel hungry with the idea that if you are not hungry you won't want to eat. Of course many times people overeat for other reasons than hunger, they eat for boredom, to heal emotions or sometimes just because the food is there in front of them.

Over the counter weight loss drugs that you can purchase without a doctor's prescription should be looked at with care. Many times these drugs are not as effective as they claim and can even compromise your health so make sure you read the information enclosed carefully for safety precautions.

And then of course there are the diet pills that work only if you are on a low fat low calorie diet. Which is ironic because going on a low fat low calorie diet will make you lose weight, so what do the pills do? It begs the question whether the pills are really responsible for the weight loss or the diet plan is helping you drop those pounds.

Prescription weight loss medication are similar to the over the counter versions in that they help you feel full and take away the urge to binge, but like all drugs there are risks and side effects associated with many different brands so make sure you follow your doctors advice carefully and inform him if you are experiencing any side effects.

Some of the more extreme side effects from taking weight loss pills are hypertension, high blood pressure, heart attack, psychosis and depression. There have also been cases with some weight loss drugs where people have died both with over the counter and prescription medications which begs the question is your life and health worth the risk just to feel less hungry.

Herbal remedies are also popular as weight loss remedies but these are drugs too and should be treated with the same caution as other medicines. Just because something is natural doesn't mean it is safe, or even works as claimed.

Overall you need to be very careful if you are considering weight loss drugs or pills. Make sure you get medical advice and make your own judgments whether they are right for you or not.

Weight Loss - Using Aerobic Exercises to Lose Weight

Everyday, it seems, we hear of some new truths, which may contradict what we have always accepted about a certain element of health and fitness. This can be related to the amount of minerals or vitamins you should or should not consume, the amount of exercise, particularly aerobic exercise, you should have and so on.

What is Aerobic Exercise?

Some popular examples of aerobic exercise include walking, cycling, aerobic dancing and swimming. The exercises should include leg muscles, hips, and arm muscles along with large volumes of inhalation and exhalation.

Advantages of Aerobic Exercise

There is a whole range of benefits that come from doing aerobic exercises including better blood circulation and respiration. Other benefits are enhanced muscle shape and tone plus a feeling of good overall health. But the most significant benefit of aerobic exercise is its effect on weight loss.

A Common Truth Disproved

Until recently is was generally assumed that if you exercised with medium intensity for prolonged periods of time this would be the most effective means to burn off fat. However, several studies and findings from fitness experts have shown that continuous hours of aerobic exercise such as jogging is not as successful in burning off fat as it was once thought to be. Many people report that even after long periods of jogging they still had excessive fat on their bodies.

Best Fat Burning Method

Instead of these long periods of exercise it was found that high-intensity exercise for shorter periods was not only less time consuming but also it proved more effective for fat loss. The reasoning is that the metabolism is kept at a higher level for a longer period of time, which resulted in more calories burned. Some examples of these high-intensity exercises are weight training and aerobic intervals exercise.

Another great exercise is spinning on a stationary bike. This should be done for a period of not less than 20 minutes along with sprints of 30 to 60 seconds duration. This is an easy routine to do and won't impact your joints like jogging on a hard surface. If you enjoy running and you aren't bothered with joint pain you're better off on a surface such as grass, dirt, or a running track. Try to avoid running on hard surfaces as much as possible to prevent developing joint and spinal injuries.

Aerobic Exercise and Your Heart

In addition to weight loss your cardiovascular system stands to benefit tremendously from your aerobic exercises. Your heart, of course, is a muscle and is capable of working for many decades. Your heart does not have to be trained like other muscles in your body unless you participate in endurance events. It may be necessary to train the heart to withstand severe emotional and physical stress. High intensity exercises will help your heart to endure many challenging situations.

Green Tea Weight Loss - Can Drinking Green Tea Help You Lose Weight?

The market is saturated with products that claim to help you lose weight. It can be hard to figure out which ones of them really work and which ones just have plenty of hype behind them. You also have to be careful about the long term effects of various weight loss supplements.

For example it was once believed that products with Ephedra were safe because it was the herbal form of Ephedrine. However this substance is now illegal because of the many health risks associated with it. Even though Ephedra was a successful weight loss supplement the risks were just too great for people to continue with it. Still it is floating around on the black market.

The next big craze that emerged was the consumption of energy drinks. They were viewed as a way to lose weight while still getting the many vitamins and minerals your body needs. The also had ingredients that weren't so good though including caffeine, guarana, and yohimbe. As a result individuals searched for a herbal alternative, and they found it with green tea.

The reason why green tea works for weight loss is that the ingredients found in it stimulate your metabolism. This means all of the exercising that you do, either high or low impact, will be more successful as your body will learn to burn fat at a faster rate. Green tea also helps the body to metabolize carbohydrates.

There are some myths about green tea though that you need to be aware of. Any type of herbal tea is not to be used as a replacement for meals. The rumor that if you drink two cans of it a day for a week you will lose twenty pounds is not true. You also need to watch what you eat and get plenty of exercise while you consume green tea for you to see results in regards to your weight. It can be a great supplement for a quality weight loss program but don't expect to drink it and then get skinny without any effort on your part.

In Star Trek Next Generation Jean-Luc Picard (French but inexplicably with a perfect English accent) was admirably played by Patrick Stewart.

I was once lucky enough to see Patrick at a conference; he was one of the speakers giving an inspirational talk. He held the stage as befits a Royal Shakespeare Company actor and commander of the USS Enterprise. (I didn't think any one could better him, but the next keynote speaker did pretty well, too*).

But the thing I remember about Patrick Stewart in Star Trek was his taste in tea. I almost can't ask for Earl Grey in a restaurant without asking for "Tea, Earl Grey, hot".

So what has Earl Grey got to do with dieting and slimming? Earl Grey was a British Prime Minister who was responsible for the Great Reform Act of 1832, which began the process of electoral reform. But as well as reforming British politics he also reformed tea. He asked Richard Twining to make him an aromatic tea based on a tea given to him as a gift by a Chinese Mandarin. Twinings developed a tea flavoured with oil of bergamot and it later became know as Earl Grey tea.

Earl Grey is a classic, delicately perfumed tea that is best drunk without milk and sugar. If you drink Earl Grey instead of your usual cuppa you'll save yourself a few calories over the course of the day. If you have the Earl Grey instead of cappuccino you could easily save yourself a few hundred calories! Cappuccino is one of the sources of hidden calories and, delicious though it is, can easily add unneeded calories to you diet.

And by making these small consistent changes you'll have an easy reduction in your calorie intake. Small consistent steps are the best ways to weight loss and taking the milk out of your tea or the cream out of your coffee is an easy way of doing this. Think of it - 100 calories a day less is 10 pounds of fat per year less. And all you have to do is drink tea!

If Earl Grey doesn't appeal (I know it's not everyone's cup of tea) try a herb tea or fruit tea. You can find these in the speciality tea section of the supermarket. You have these teas without milk or creamer so you save yourself those calories. Just make sure it's a tea without added sugars or sweeteners. You can make the teas quite dilute so that they'll help keep you hydrated in the summer. Lime tea is also a favourite of mine. By this I mean the tea from the flowers of the linden tree, sometimes sold as Tilia, not the citrus fruit lime. You can even get mixed packs of these herb teas so you can find your favourite.

And step-by-step you can make a change to help your figure and your health.
